Jumbled Thoughts

promotion coming real soon
An event transpiried yesterday that I didn't expect to come so quickly. Short story, my eventual promotion to a shift manager at the bell looks to be coming very shortly, possibly in this coming week, rather than when a current one leaves.

What sparked this is that Heather (a shift manager) fell a couple times in the parking lot and is out for at least a week. So Greg (general manager) was going through the schedules with the other managers to get her shifts covered and I guess a problem was encountered for Sunday morning opening. When they saw this, they came to me at the arcade (Thursday = arcade work day) to ask if I could open on Sunday. Then they told me about Heather and that I would be literally opening, that Greg would give me login access to the computer as well as my own card (you have no idea how happy I am to have my own manager card, it makes working register a lot easier when you have idiots and/or coupons on the other side of the counter, I've wanted my own forever), and that I would borrow Becky's keys. I went over there after work to help make my login for the system and get told the basics for opening with the system (I had opened like this once before in summer 2003, but our system for everything was upgraded this past summer to do more with the computer and it works MUCH better) and such, and was asked if I could come in earilier today for Becky to walk me through it quick. What really happened is that after I borrowed her car for a bank run, I did learn what I didn't already know since Becky was only covering the first three hours since she had plans with her family, so I took control of the shift (which is essentially doing the same thing for opening) and she left. I was actually in charge of the store for a couple hours, and when Mike came in, we decided since I was closing anyways, to make things easier for both of us that I'd just keep the shift until close which would also teach me how to close up for the day. Now I can pretty much open and close the store if need be, which is pretty cool.

As it stands now, I don't see me not getting promoted within the next couple weeks. Now I can do literally everything in the store outside of any shit that Greg has to do. I'm confident in doing openings well on my own (as in with no other manager) though I still want to close with someone just to be sure I don't forget something since there's more things involved with a close. All I need now to be a definite manager is a black manager shirt, shiny nametag, and a raise. It sux to hear about Heather getting injured and all, but I'm happy that my eventual promotion is probably within weeks instead of within months, which will definetly help out finicially. It's been a long time coming, and now it's almost here. ^_^
