July 4th = 2 days? I was kind of hoping that it wasn't true, but it appears that July 4th spanned two days this year. I realize that the holiday fell on a Sunday this year, but does that mean it really has to effect Monday? Just because a holiday fell on a day where many places who get that holiday off on a day of the week they don't already work means that said places should get a day off because they would have had it fallen on another day of the week? The postal service, I can almost understand, since that is a federal service, but banks? Seriously, if you land a job in the bank, you've got it made. Your place of work is only open 7 hours a day at most, 4 on Saturdays, every Sunday guranteed off, really good pay, I don't see a downside. My bank a few months ago shortned its hours, like they really need to. And the kicker, shit turned in after 2PM is considered "next day" how the hell does that work? The day is just barely past the halfway point around then. So as if they really need another day off just because a holiday fell on a Sunday.
But as much as I'd like to bitch about the bank, this post is geared elsewhere. This is about the Centro buses. These buses are said to run everyday with the exception of a few holidays, one of them being July 4th. So why the hell were they not running today, July
5TH?? I mean the postal service I already said my bit, the bank as much as I hate it at least has more of a reason (if you can call it that) for this shit, but the BUS? Fucking ridiclous. I wonder how many people found out the hard today. I was lucky, I was going to catch an 8AM bus to work but Mike was going in about when I left, so he picked me up while I was walking to the bus stop (I didn't see him at all yesterday, so I didn't even think he was home). I chilled in my TB for a while, went to BK for breakfast, and walked to the Liverpool TB. It was there late in the afternoon when I had learned that no Centro buses were running, and I learned that from a co-worker there who was forced to walk to work! I had to leave early so I could get back to the mall before Mike left so I would be able to even come home. I had planned for no bus on the 4th, I made arrangements so I didn't have to work since I had no way of getting to and from work. Today, I volunteered to work a shift at Liverpool since I figured that buses would be running, had I known they wouldn't be running I wouldn't have taken the shift. But what frustrates me is when I think deeper into it. No public transportation for TWO days means some businesses are gonna have problems. Today, there still are many workers who rely on public transportation to get to their jobs and back, to them, this is two days that they can't work. The first day is obvious, but the second not. Plus, on this day, since the holiday was two days, a lot of people went out on day two, and since many places were closed for the "holiday", this means the places still open had a lot more people to deal with than normal and a lot less staff. I can tell you we felt it at the Liverpool TB (running all of drive thru by yourself (minus food making) is not fun when there's so many damn cars in a row), my home TB felt it, and so did the mall's movie theater. As Mike said, last week he had a lot of people working but spent most of the time sending people home, but now that it was a day that is damn near always slow, he had little staff and got swamped. And this second day could hurt these places that are still open more, if they have employees that rely on public transportation who didn't know of the buses not running and unable to get to work any other way. I was almost in this situation, had Mike not caught me when he did, I would've waited a long time for a bus that never was going to show up and be unable to work, which would've probably killed the staff there during the lunch rush even more than it did already.
I just don't get the system with this one.
